The Alcohol Report analyses whether the introduction of restrictions or prohibitions on alcohol in Indigenous communities would breach provisions of the Racial Discrimination Act 1975. Specifically, the report considers whether or not restrictions on alcohol provision to Indigenous drinkers amount to a special measure under the RDA.

The Attorney-General, The Hon Robert McClelland, launched the teaching resource about human rights in Australia at the inaugural Settlement Council of Australia (ScoA) Conference on 28 May 2009 in Canberra. The launch was a great success, with approximately 150 people in attendance.

The Commission conducts visits to Australia’s immigration detention facilities in order to monitor conditions in the facilities. The Commission’s aim is to ensure that conditions meet internationally accepted human rights standards.

This site is being established by the Commission as an initiative to promote provision of Government information in forms which all Australians can use and which comply with the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act.

Human Rights Commissioner's Report No.6 (April 1998) deals with a complaint concerning the refusal of an application by the complainant for classification as a teacher in Catholic schools. The principal reason for the refusal advanced by the respondent was the complainant’s high profile in an organisation of gay and lesbian teachers and students and her public statements on these issues.

This report deals with complaints by four pilots who were compulsorily retired at age 60 from their employment with a major airline. The complainants submitted that the decision, taken pursuant to company policy, constituted discrimination on the ground of age . The Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples was adopted by the General Assembly of the United Nations on Thursday 13 September 2007. It was adopted with 143 countries voting in favour, 11 abstaining and 4 voting against. Australia was one of the four countries who voted against the Declaration.
