Bringing them Home - Chapter 3
Within months of the `First Fleet' arrival at Sydney Cove in 1788 there was `open animosity' as Indigenous people protested against `the Europeans cutting down trees, taking their food and game, and driving them back into others' territories'. Bitter conflict followed as Aboriginal people engaged in `guerilla warfare - plundering crops, burning huts, and driving away stock' to be met by `punitive… -

Bringing them Home - Chapter 5
The colony of Moreton Bay was established as a penal outpost of New South Wales in 1825. Extreme violence accompanied the rapid expansion of European settlers, particularly in the north. This violence and the spread of introduced diseases resulted in a rapid decrease in the Indigenous population. Kidnapping Indigenous women and children for economic and sexual exploitation was common. -

Ausyouth Conference 2001
The creation of Ausyouth is an initiative that clearly picks up on the real-life needs of today's youth, an initiative that has the potential to foster the building blocks of a progressive caring society, and from a human rights perspective, it's an initiative that addresses some of Australia's obligations with respect to international instruments, to which we as a nation are committed. -

Wooden escalators just aren't cricket
My dog goes with me everywhere - on trains buses and planes, into my doctors surgery, and the nice restaurants to which my wife entices me. She's a guide dog mate. But there are two places she does not go- in two of the busiest railway stations in Sydney. The wooden "heritage" escalators at Town Hall and Wynyard. Why doesn't she go there? Because of the risk of injury to her paws in the wide… -

National Inquiry into Children in Immigration Detention
Many of my clients (while I was working as a Child and Adolescent Counsellor with STARTTS June 2000 - January 2002) refused to talk about their experiences in Australian Immigration Detention Centres. In addition, several mothers only let me see their children for counselling on the condition that I not raise their Australian Detention experiences as it would distress them too much and they do… -

The results of the survey showed that people with disability identify access to employment as one of the most important human rights issues they face. [1] A recurring comment in the survey was that many people with disability want to work and were capable of working. … -
