This is the text of a letter from Commissioner Ozdowski on 4 October 2005 in response to a request from the Australian Federation of Disability Organisations for views on the effect of the draft Disability Standard on Access to Premises on small business and in particular small business operating out of existing buildings:

To gather participants from government, employer representative bodies, private employers, disability employment and service agencies and other interested and expert organisation to discuss the desirability and possibility for establishing an information and advice service modelled on the US Job Accommodation Network.

Human Rights Commissioner and Acting Disability Discrimination Commissioner Dr Sev Ozdowski OAM is considering recommending to the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission a possible public inquiry on issues affecting equal employment opportunity for people with a disability in Australia.

The following responses have been received to the request for comments issued in August 2004 on a possible public inquiry on issues affecting equal employment opportunity and outcomes for people with disabilities in Australia:

In late 2001 the Attorney-General's Department organised a Forum on Illegal Sterilisation of Disabled Minors, which brought together officers from a range of government agencies.
